Eagles to Stay with the ‘Hot Hand’ at Running Back in Rookie Miles Sanders

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said Thursday that he expects to continue to ride the hot hand with rookie running back Miles Sanders even if veteran Jordan Howard is able to return for Sunday’s must-win game against the New York Giants according to Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94WIP.com.

Howard has been unable to suit up since Week 9 due to a shoulder injury and still has not been cleared for contact but hopes to get that clearance from doctors later on Thursday.

But much has changed since earlier in the season when Howard was getting the vast majority of early-down work while Sanders was mainly used on passing downs. The second-round rookie out of Penn State has taken control of the running game in Howard’s absence and it makes sense for that to continue, as Sanders offers much more value as a receiver in addition to his home-run ability on the ground.

Pederson did also note that Boston Scott has earned the chance to keep playing as the diminutive (5’6″, 203 pounds) sophomore has provided a spark at times for the Philly offense, especially in the Week 14 overtime win over the Giants. But this has definitely evolved into Sanders’ backfield and he is the only viable fantasy option.
